The movie will be brought to the screen on January 31. In the sci-fi movie, Chow plays a poor father, who works very hard to support his 9-year-old son. One day, Chow discovers a strange "toy" in the garbage and gives it to his son as a birthday present. Soon the "toy" turns out to be a communication device lost by aliens, who desperately want it back. Zhang stars as his son's beautiful teacher, with whom Chow falls in love, not knowing that she is a robot. While A Hope was being filmed in 2006, a Hong Kong newspaper burst onto the scene with a report that Zhang had undergone a series of plastic surgeries (美容手术), including double eyelid (双眼皮) surgery, during a week's break. Rumors said that Chow flew into a rage (大怒) upon finding it out and decided to give up on her. However, it turned out that Zhang was finally forgiven and remained as the leading role in the movie. And admirably, she became the apple of Chow's eye and has since been touted (吹捧) as Chow's new protégé (被保护人) after Cecilia Cheung (张柏芝) and Eva Huang (黄圣依). Although Zhang feels fortunate, as A Hope has made her an overnight star, the student at Shanghai Drama Academy has to learn to adapt to the competitive film world. "It's a good start, it's my opportunity and a stressful challenge as well for my age," she said. "Although it's tough to survive in showbiz (娱乐圈), Chow makes me love acting more than ever before, so I'll work hard to fit in," Zhang added.
