The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, is one of the most significant traditional Chinese festivals.It falls on the fifth day of the fifth month according to Chinese Lunar calendar. The festival is said to be in honour of Qu Yuan, a great poet as well as one who tried all his best to help his own country but failed and committed suicide by drowning himself in Miluo River.The folks respected and loved him so much that they threw zongzi into the river to prevent fish from eating his body.Later it became a custom for people to eat zongzi and watch dragon boat races on that day. Now we can have a oneday holiday on this festival when all family members can stay together and enjoy a big meal.
