A It was a lovely spring day. Jonathan went to a park and took some photos. When he finished, he decided to stay a little longer. All the seats in the park were full, so he lay down on the grass, putting the camera beside him. The sun was so warm that he soon fell asleep. When he woke up, he found his camera was gone. He told a policeman in the park about it. The policeman told Jonathan that three other people had lost cameras there that week. Jonathan published an advertisement in the newspaper next day. It said:” Bring me your cameras. I will buy them and offer good price. Come and see at No. 64, Anva Road on every Saturday from 8:30 until 19:30.” Two policemen came to Jonathan’s house on Saturday. Jonathan gave them a piece of paper with the number of his camera on it. At 11 o’clock a man came with some cameras for sale.     B Language is always changing. In a society where life continues year after year with few changes, the language does not change either. The earliest known languages had difficult grammar but a small, limited vocabulary. Over the century, the grammar changed, and the vocabulary grew. For example, the English and Spanish people who came to America during the sixteenth century gave names to all the new plants and animals they found. In this way, hundreds of new words were introduced into English and Spanish vocabularies. Today life is changing very fast, and language is changing fast too. There are several major(主要) language families in the world. Some scientists say there are nine main families, but other scientists divide them differently. The languages in each family are connected, and scientists think that they came from the same parent language. About 3 percent of the people in the world speak languages that are not in these major families. 65. The early language had _____. A. a lot of problems B. words and easy grammar C. words but no grammar D. grammar but not many words 66. In the next few hundred years we can expect language to _____. A. stay exactly the same B. change a great deal C. change only a little D. ask more words and drop some grammar 67. What this article shows is that _____. A. languages change fast B. languages really don't want to change C. language really changes with the development of society D. Spanish and English change
C Life in the future will be different from life today. Between then and now many changes will happen. But what will the changes be? The population is growing fast. There will be many people in the world and most of them will live longer than people live now. Computers will be much smaller and more useful, and there will be at least one in every room. And computer studies will be one of the important subjects in schools then. People will work fewer hours than they do now and they will have more free time for sports, watching TV and travel. Traveling will be much cheaper and easier. And many more people will go to other countries for holidays. There will be changes in our food, too. More land will be used for building new towns and houses for all the people. Then there will be less room for cows and sheep, so meat will be more expensive. Maybe no one will eat it every day. Instead they will eat more fruit and vegetables. Maybe people will be healthier. Work in the future will be different, too. Robots will do dangerous and hard work. Because of this, many people will not have enough work to do. This will be a problem. 68. In the future there will be ____. A. much more fruit B. more people C. fewer vegetables D fewer people 69. In the future people don’t have to ____. A. work long hours B. work fast C. walk on foot D. eat meat 70. People may not eat ____ as much as they do today. A. fruit B. fish C. meat D. rice 71. One big problem in the future is that _____. A. many people don’t have to work B. all people cannot find work. C. people have to work fast D. all the work will be done by robots
D Laptop computers are popular all over the world. People use them on trains and airplanes, in airports and hotels. These laptops connect people to their workplace. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms. Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program that allows students to do schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million computer program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition(另外), they will be able to use e-mail to “speak” with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. They can work with it at home, in a fast-food restaurant or under the trees----anywhere at all! Because of the many changes in computer technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities, is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktop computers. In addition, the portable(可移动的)computers can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources(资源). State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptop programs at other universities, too. At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff(工作人员)use computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, “Here we are in the middle of Virginia and we’re giving students a window on the world. They can see everything and do everything.” 72. The main purpose of the laptop program is to give each student a laptop to____. A. use for their schoolwork B. surf the Internet C. work at home D. connect them to libraries 73. Why is the word “speak” in the second paragraph in quotation marks(引号)? A. They don’t really talk. B. They use the computer language. C. Laptops have speakers. D. None of the above reasons is correct. 74. Which of the following is true about Westlake College? A. All teachers use computers. B.1500 students have had laptops. C. It is an old college in America. D. Students there can do everything. 75. “A window on the world” in the last paragraph means that students can ____. A. attend lectures on information technology B. travel around the world C. get information from around the world D. have free laptops
