高考网汇集整理《高二英语阅读：The one and only》 The one and only THERE are no shortage of kungfu scenes in Hollywood productions. But it is Jet Li who has best illustrated this Chinese traditional art. If Jackie Chan is known for his improvisational (即兴的) use of props (小道具), his acrobatics (杂耍) and his sense of humor, Li is famous for his classical technique, moves and speed. "He is a fighter who happens to act, not an actor who happens to fight," says American Adam Coughlin, who works for 21st Century Teens. Jet Li was crowned best actor for his part in the film The Warlords (《投名状》) at the Hong Kong Film Awards on April 13. He edged Andy Lau (刘德华) out to win the title. "If I had not made a lot of kungfu films, I could have won the best actor award 20 years ago," Li said. In a joking way, Li drew a rough picture of his film career. Ever since he broke into the film industry in Shaolin Temple at the age of 19, the majority of the roles he played are martial arts heroes. "Usually commercial action films have a formula (公式)," Li said. "The good guy has a problem, his wife or mother dies and then they go to the mountain to learn martial arts, to come back and kill the bad guy. Lots of that." Li's Hollywood work, including The One (《救世主》) and Kiss of the Dragon (《龙之吻》), more or less followed a predicable storyline. While his kungfu skills were used extensively, the films don't have much depth. English poses a big problem for Li. Because of the language barrier, Li's roles don't have many conversations. "I know that Jet Li's English has improved and I should not complain, but his broken English is just so distracting," writes Emily Ting, a critic with Asian American Film Reviews. Li started to make changes to this problem in 2000. He starred in Hero, exploring a philosophical (哲学的) story of mercy and courage. In his winning work, The Warlords, Li captures the inner-struggle of an ambitious army general, adding a tragic touch to the whole picture. Li's new work is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (《木乃伊3》) where he stars as an emperor in ancient China. It will come out on August 1. Will there be any new surprises?
